Volkswagen Group Vehicle Deliveries Fall 14.3% in Q3

Volkswagen Group reported a 14.3% decrease in vehicle deliveries during the third quarter of 2026, delivering approximately 1.89 million vehicles worldwide. This represents an acceleration of the decline, signaling growing challenges for the automotive giant. The decline was particularly pronounced in China, where deliveries fell by 38.5%.

Subsidiary Audi experienced an even steeper drop in deliveries, down 19.7% to 314,905 vehicles in the third quarter. This marks a worsening trend; the decline in the second quarter was approximately 8%. Cumulatively, for the first nine months of the year, Audi’s deliveries decreased by 11.4% to 1.04 million vehicles. While Audi saw slight gains in Germany and Europe over the first nine months, these were insufficient to offset the broader downturn.

The decline in sales is attributed to intense competition, a weakening market in China, and the impact of US tariffs. Unlike competitors like BMW, Volkswagen lacks domestic production in the US, making it particularly vulnerable to trade barriers. Audi’s sales in China decreased by nearly 25% and in the US by approximately 16% during the first nine months of the year. The company also cited model changes for the A1 and Q2 as contributing factors to the drop. Data indicates Audi delivered nearly 480,000 vehicles in Q3 2023, approximately half the number delivered in the most recent quarter.

The reported declines in vehicle deliveries for both Volkswagen Group and Audi underscore significant headwinds facing the company. The accelerating downward trend in deliveries, particularly in the crucial Chinese market, presents a substantial challenge to maintaining revenue and profitability. The impact of US tariffs further exacerbates these issues, highlighting the need for strategic adjustments to mitigate external pressures.
