Nikon Significantly Raises FY2027 Profit Forecast
Nikon significantly raised its full-year profit forecast for FY2027, now projecting a net profit of ¥16.0 billion, a substantial 60.0% increase compared to the previous year’s ¥10.0 billion. The upward revision, announced October 30th, reflects a strong performance in the company’s precision machinery segment, fueled by favorable conditions in the semiconductor market.
The company now anticipates full-year revenue of ¥722.0 billion, a slight decrease from the previously forecast ¥732.0 billion. However, operating profit is expected to reach ¥16.5 billion, a 50.0% increase from the prior forecast of ¥11.0 billion. This improvement is attributed to increased service revenue within the precision machinery business, cost control measures, and tax refunds in the United States. The revised forecast for profit before tax stands at ¥21.5 billion, up 48.3% from the earlier projection of ¥14.5 billion.
While the full-year revenue forecast has been modestly reduced due to a revision of sales plans in the imaging business for the second half of the fiscal year, overall profitability is expected to improve. The interim period (first half) also saw a positive revision, with the company now forecasting a ¥10.5 billion net profit for the period ending September 30th, a dramatic shift from the previously projected ¥2.5 billion loss. Basic earnings per share for the interim period have been revised to ¥31.87, compared to a previous forecast of a loss of ¥7.59.
These revisions demonstrate a significant turnaround for Nikon, driven by the strong performance of its precision machinery division, which benefits from the ongoing demand for advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The company’s ability to capitalize on the favorable semiconductor market conditions, coupled with effective cost management, has resulted in a substantial improvement in its profit outlook. The prior year saw a net loss of ¥86.088 billion, making the current trajectory a notable positive shift.
