Fujitsu Reports ¥59.4 Billion in Interim Profit, Driven by Uvance

Fujitsu reported a significant turnaround in its interim results for fiscal year 2027, posting a profit of ¥59.4 billion, a considerable increase compared to the ¥6.359 billion loss recorded in the same period last year. This improvement was driven by a 5.9% increase in revenue, reaching ¥1.139 trillion, and enhanced profitability across key business segments.

The company highlighted the growing demand for its Uvance portfolio – a suite of digital solutions aimed at addressing societal challenges – as a primary catalyst for growth. Revenue within the service solutions segment experienced particular strength, with both the enterprise and public sectors contributing to the positive trend. While the hardware solutions segment saw revenue increases, profitability was impacted by rising component costs. The ubiquitous solutions segment experienced a decline in revenue.

Adjusted operating profit reached ¥141 billion, a 11.8% year-over-year increase. This metric excludes one-time gains and losses related to business restructuring and M&A activity, providing a clearer picture of the company's underlying operational performance. The adjusted operating margin also improved, rising to 12.2% from 10.6% in the prior year. The company also noted increased investment in areas like quantum computing and AI, with the launch of Fujitsu MONAKA, a new CPU, expected in the near future.

Fujitsu’s financial recovery comes after a period of restructuring and strategic realignment. The company has been focusing on higher-margin businesses, particularly in the digital transformation space, and investing in emerging technologies. This latest set of results suggests that these efforts are beginning to bear fruit, with the company demonstrating improved profitability and revenue momentum. The company did not announce a dividend at this time.

Overall, Fujitsu’s interim results reveal a positive trajectory, with the company benefiting from strong demand for its Uvance solutions and a focus on higher-margin businesses. The 11.8% year-over-year increase in adjusted operating profit and the return to profitability represent a significant improvement and signal a positive shift in the company’s financial performance.
