Formosa Petrochemical Q3 Profit Rises 17.5%
Formosa Petrochemical Corp. (6505 TW) saw its consolidated net profit for the first nine months of 2026 reach NT$67.47 billion, a 17.5% increase compared to the same period last year, according to a material announcement filed on November 5th. This profit was built on NT$588.63 billion in accumulated operating revenue, with a gross profit of NT$87.75 billion and an operating profit of NT$79.48 billion.
The results reveal a company benefiting from strong demand, though the filings also highlight strategic maneuvering within the broader Formosa Plastics Group. Alongside the profit announcement, Formosa Petrochemical disclosed a NT$3.25 billion investment to increase its stake in its smart technology subsidiary, Taiplast New Intelligent Technology Corporation. This investment, representing 325,000,000 shares at NT$10 per share, signals a strategic push into new technological areas, increasing the company's holdings to 25% of the subsidiary. The investment represents 70.84% of the company’s total assets and 52.13% of the owner’s equity.
Further demonstrating internal financial activity, the company’s board approved new loans totaling NT$31.5 billion to affiliated companies—including Taiwan Plastics, Nan Ya Plastics, Taiwan Chemical Fibre, Taiya Petrochemical, and Taishou Heavy Industry—primarily for working capital. These loans, representing 5.71% of the company’s net asset value, underscore the interconnectedness of the Formosa Plastics Group and its internal financing mechanisms. The company stated that the loans are sourced from its own funds, and the largest single loan is NT$138.006 billion, given to Taiwan Plastics Industrial Corporation.
The reported NT$67.47 billion in profit, coupled with the significant investments and internal loans, paints a picture of a financially robust Formosa Petrochemical actively deploying capital within its affiliated network and seeking growth in emerging technology sectors. The company’s total assets reached NT$638.19 billion at the end of the reporting period, with total liabilities at NT$80.19 billion and owner’s equity at NT$552.02 billion.
