Ceconomy Reports 27% EBIT Jump as JD.com Takeover Awaits EU Review

Ceconomy, the parent company of MediaMarktSaturn, reported a substantial 27% increase in adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) to €515 million for fiscal year 2025/26, according to preliminary figures released today.

The earnings surge represents the 15th consecutive quarter of profitability growth for the Düsseldorf-based retailer. The company highlighted particularly strong performance in the categories of household appliances, IT, and mobile devices. Revenue also increased, rising 5.3% year-over-year to €24 billion. Ceconomy currently operates 1,068 stores under the MediaMarkt, MediaWorld, and Saturn brands across eleven European countries, a net increase of one store compared to the previous year.

The positive financial results arrive as Ceconomy awaits final approval from the European Union for a proposed takeover by Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com. The German Federal Cartel Office has already cleared the acquisition. The company employs approximately 50,000 people and focuses on the sale of electronics products and related services to consumers.

Ceconomy has set a target of approximately €800 million in adjusted EBIT for the fiscal year 2028/29. The company plans to publish its final financial results on December 14th. These results indicate a strengthening of Ceconomy’s core business as it prepares for potential ownership changes, and represent a notable improvement in profitability amidst a competitive European retail landscape.
