BYD October Sales Dip: NEV Sales Down 2.16% YoY
BYD Company Limited saw a 2.16% year-over-year decrease in new energy vehicle (NEV) sales for October 2026, according to a voluntary announcement released by the company. Total NEV sales reached 490,168 units, down from 441,706 units in October 2025.
The decline in overall NEV sales was driven by a more significant drop in plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales, which fell 11.02% year-over-year to 177,382 units. Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales, however, bucked the trend, increasing 7.95% to 305,743 units. Passenger vehicle sales also experienced a decrease, down 2.57% year-over-year to 483,125 units.
Year-to-date, BYD’s NEV sales totaled 3,621,744 units, a decrease compared to the 3,701,852 units sold during the same period in 2025. The company reported a total production volume of 488,104 vehicles in October 2026, a slight increase of 0.45% compared to October 2025. BYD also disclosed that its export volume of NEVs reached 170,194 units in October, indicating a growing international presence.
The company’s commercial vehicle sales saw a substantial increase of 30.22% year-over-year in October, reaching 7,043 units. Bus sales also increased significantly, up 26.20% to 600 units. These gains in commercial vehicle and bus sales, however, were not enough to offset the declines in passenger vehicle and PHEV sales.
These figures demonstrate a mixed performance for BYD, with growth in BEV and commercial vehicle segments offset by a decline in PHEV sales and overall NEV volume. The decrease in PHEV sales contrasts with the broader trend of robust growth in the Indian automotive sector, where overall corporate earnings in Q2 2026 demonstrated strong expansion, even as margin pressures emerge across various industries.
