AMD Posts Record Q3 Revenue, Driven by Data Center Growth
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) delivered record third-quarter results, posting $13.38 billion in revenue—a 45% increase year-over-year—driven by surging demand in its Data Center segment. This performance underscores AMD’s increasing strength in the high-growth market for AI-related chips, as the company capitalizes on a broader recovery in the semiconductor sector.
The substantial revenue growth translated into a 95% year-over-year increase in net income, reaching $2.43 billion. This jump was coupled with a 7 percentage point increase in operating margin, reaching 21%, indicating improved operating leverage as the Data Center business scales. The Data Center segment alone generated $8.5 billion in revenue, a remarkable 97% year-over-year increase, fueled by strong sales of EPYC processors and the newly launched Instinct MI450 Series GPUs. These gains offset an 8% decline in the Client and Gaming segment, where lower semi-custom and graphics revenue weighed on performance.
While the Client and Gaming segment experienced a decline, the broader picture reflects AMD’s successful diversification into higher-margin markets. The company’s strategic acquisitions, including World Labs and Taalas, signal a commitment to expanding its capabilities across the entire superintelligence stack. AMD is actively positioning itself to benefit from the growing demand for AI infrastructure, as evidenced by collaborations with industry leaders like Anthropic, Meta, and Oracle.
Looking ahead, AMD anticipates fourth-quarter revenue of approximately $17 billion, representing a projected year-over-year growth of approximately 66%. This outlook, coupled with the recent financial performance, suggests that AMD is well-positioned to continue capitalizing on the momentum in the data center and AI markets, even as the broader PC market remains subdued.
